In a breakthrough in the history of Indian Army, Havildar Preeti Rajak, a distinguished trap shooter in women’s team, has been elevated to become India’s first woman Subedar on Sunday.
Subedar Preeti Rajak joined the Army in the Corps of Military Police in December 2022.
“In a proud moment for the Indian Army as well as women of the country, today Havildar Preeti Rajak, trap shooter, was promoted to the rank of Subedar,” the Army said.
“Subedar Preeti Rajak is now the first woman Subedar of the Indian Army. Her achievement is an extraordinary display of Nari Shakti,” it added.
Daughter of a drycleaner from Madhya Pradesh’s Itarsi, Rajak was the first meritorious sportswoman in the shooting discipline who enrolled in the Army as Havildar. The Army said that Rajak is currently ranked sixth in India and is undergoing training at the Army Markmanship Unit (AMU) for the preparation of Paris Olympic Games.
Her extraordinary performance and unwavering spirit will continue motivating young women to come forward to join the Army and uphold women empowerment.
